Delivering Quality

There is, as you will see, far more to framing than meets the eye. To produce a quality framed picture requires the best equipment with the best trained operators. You will see both as we endeavour to give you an insight into some of the skills our framers have to master. All your framing is undertaken in our workshop in Bolenna Lane.

1. Mount Cutting
We currently use a 48" manual mount cutters whilst an alternative machine cuts oval and circle windows.

2. Frame Cutting
A foot operated Morso machine guillotines the corner mitres of  the mouldings.

3. Frame Joining
Automatic air compressed underpinners long ago replaced hammer and nails (!) although, unlike some framers, we always glue the mitres as well.

4. Dry Mounting
Many forms of artwork look their best if dry mounted onto card, especially photographs and posters. All papers move with changes in air temperature and moisture content (humidity). Where appropriate, dry mounting gets and keeps paper flat.

5. Assembly
The coming together of the component parts, where attention is given to ensuring the picture is attached correctly - No sellotapes or masking tapes are used to attach artwork; we use special acid free tape.  Our skills and services are wide ranging, culminating in framing to a museum specification if the subject matter or artwork so demands. We can frame almost anything including memorabilia, medals, coins, needleworks, textiles and fabrics, oils on board or canvas, photographs, watercolours, charcoals and pastels.

We have extensive hand-finishing skills including gilding, painting, liming and staining, whilst we stock a wide variety of plain wood and  finished mouldings including swept, oval and circular frames.

Our range of mount boards is entirely to conservation or museum specification. The preservation as well as the presentation of your artwork is of considerable importance to us.

We are also able to make framed mirrors to your specification.
