Social Responsibility

At Country Picture Framing we are committed to offering sustainable picture frame design by offering alternative choices in eco-conscious materials and we make conscious choices towards playing a role in protecting our environment. These green framing choices involve the materials we have available for framing, the supplies we use on a daily basis, and our efforts to reuse and recycle as much as we can. We build quality picture frames to last and we guarantee our work for life, so few if any of our frames end up in landfills.
One of our suppliers for instance is Larson-Juhl. In 1991, Larson-Juhl partnered with American Forests to begin the Global ReLeaf ecosystem restoration project. Since then, Larson-Juhl has planted over a quarter of a million trees throughout the world. Larson-Juhl protects the environment…
Most cheap discount frames are often made of some form of plastic finished to look like wood or paper covered MDF. We never use these.
Metal frames are also quite common, usually aluminuim but metal sourced from certified recycled metal are not yet available.
Country Picture Framing does not use cheap and unsustainable materials. We use solid, full-grain wood from sustainable sources, both finished and ‘bare’. We also hold samples of high quality contemporary aluminium framing which will last a lifetime.
We only use acid free mountboard so that your artwork is protected and kept pristine.
We recycle and reduce wastage as much as possible and we often donate extra scrap mount board, cardboard, and foamcore backing to local schools, (Please call us if you have a worthy or charitable use for for scrap card). We sometimes even give some mountboard to loyal customers for painting on rather than throwing it away.
All the remaining scrap paper, mat board, and cardboard are placed in recycling bins and are recycled.
Picture frame glass and acrylic cannot be recycled at this time, but we do our best to reuse them in our ready made frames.
Some moulding makers have discontinued using exotic woods due to the lack of cost-effective and sustainable sources of these woods. Instead, renewable hardwoods are finished to mimic the exotic look. We fully endorse this policy and never knowingly use rain forest timbers.
Most of the timber we use at Country Picture Framing is in fact Tulipwood, Oak and Ash from renewable sources.
The better the frame is made, the longer it will last. Having a properly made frame endorses one of the most basic environmental policies as it is not a throw-away item and will last many years. Often it can be ‘recycled’ by changing the artwork for another of the same size.
We anticipate that if a picture is hung on a dry warm wall then the our frames will both conserve and protect the picture and that it should last for many years for you to appreciate and to enhance your home environment.
